SECC Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

SECC Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Stafford Early Childhood Center Faculty, Staff, and Students Celebrated the end of Hispanic Heritage Month by having interactive lessons and showcasing traditional dress as a campus.  Principal Twyla Hynes created a campus-based diversity committee that highlights the many cultures that represent the faculty, staff, and students of SECC throughout the school year.

The Stafford Early Childhood Center 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year Catherine Habervo stated, “It is very important for students to see their cultures represented and to know that all cultures are celebrated and welcomed at Stafford ECC!”

In addition to weekly activities that are planned by the diversity committee for the teachers to facilitate, SECC Counselor Takeya Coleman can be heard each morning during the daily announcements highlighting famous Hispanic or Latino artists, authors, poets, and places in both English and Spanish.  This is extended by the teachers having pictures, books, and/or writing samples to share with students in the classroom. It was an amazing experience for the faculty, staff, students, and parents to celebrate and highlight the Hispanic culture in so many ways.
