When the Stafford Early Childhood Center Daycare first opened its doors, the four staff members graciously greeted the first eight students and their families with open arms. Opening during the pandemic was a difficult feat that was tackled head-on by the coordinator, Regina Matthews and the daycare staff. The daycare has grown each year since its original opening date.
“Now we have thirty-one students and seven staff members with an infant room, toddler room and preschool that utilize a research-based curriculum designed for all,” said Principal Twyla Hynes.
The SECC Daycare is powered by Fueling Brains which focuses on whole-child development. The hope is that the students in the daycare will continue to thrive as they transition into the main campus. In fact, four of the original eight daycare students are now excelling in the campus PreK-3 program. With the support of Superintendent Robert Bostic and the SMSD Board of Trustees, the daycare has been able to meet the growth and demand that have taken place over the last three years. The daycare is proving to be a true success as evidenced by its growth, student progress and student achievement that continue to occur.
