On World Diabetes Day 2022, it was no surprise when Jerae Thomas chose to bring awareness and knowledge about diabetes, to the daycare students and district visitors, in honor of one of Stafford Early Childhood Center’s youngest Spartans, her daughter Kori Thomas. Utilizing the national theme of Education to Protect Tomorrow, Ms. Thomas hosted an event at the SECC Daycare, to present a kid-friendly lesson on diabetes followed by a baking activity.
With the help of a group of students from Stafford Elementary School and with everyone dressed in blue, Kori’s classmates were able to make and bake sugar-free cookies which are considered a healthy and safe alternative to regular cookies that contain sugar.
"We are a carb counting, insulin giving, hope having type 1 family and together we are stronger than diabetes,” said Ms. Thomas.
It was a fun event with a powerful purpose and message. Bringing awareness presents the opportunity to strengthen the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes.
